My original logo design for Assessment 2 was, well… crap. See for yourself.
I rushed the design and didn’t think twice about what I was doing. My main objectives of the design was to communicate a sense of joy and that the app is relevant to hockey.
The font choice was dull and the splatter was unnecessary, but I assumed it would be effective because it correlated with “stick” and added a bit more to the design.
The redesign process was based off feedback from classmates, using an assessment sheet provided in class. They answered questions using a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being poor, 10 being excellent) and then providing a comment (optional). This feedback gave me information I could use to improve my logo in multiple areas, see it below.
The objective in my redesign was to create a more appealing logo using the ‘less is more’ approach which still communicated the core values of the app.
The new logo was modified to feature a hockey stick and ball, with the title of the app. The use of black in contrast to the blue draws attention but looks clean and cool. The typeface is athletic and the slant indicates a form of movement. The hockey stick and ball clearly identify the app as being of hockey origin. The overall colour use and design is clean, elegant and identifiable to an audience of all ages.
